Eligibility & Steps for Dual Enrollment/Early Admission

 

Start College While You're in High School

Get on track early, complete your college degree faster and save money. Below are the eligibility requirements and steps for Dual Enrollment/Early Admission at Palm Beach State College. If you have any questions, please email dualenrollment@palmbeachstate.edu.

Public & Charter School Students

Eligibility

6th – 9th Grade Students - Part-time (max 8 credits) (Fall, Spring, or Summer)

  • I have four high school credits (at least one in Math and one in English)
  • I have a cumulative unweighted GPA of at least 3.5.
  • I have college-ready test scores in ALL 3 areas. (Valid two years from the test date)

 

10th – 12th Grade Students - Part-time (max 8 credits) (Fall, Spring, or Summer) 

  • I have a cumulative unweighted GPA of at least 3.0.
    • High School Senior GPA Exception (12th Grade ONLY)
    • High School seniors with a cumulative unweighted GPA between 2.75 - 2.99 and at least one college-ready placement score may enroll in SLS1501 ONLY in the Fall or Spring semester. 
      • Upon successful completion of SLS1501(Grade of a “C” or better) in the Fall semester, the student may be approved for one additional course in the Spring Semester. 
  • I have college-ready test scores in ALL 3 areas.
    • College-Ready Placement Score Exception (10th - 12th Grade ONLY)
      • Student must have at least a 3.0 cumulative unweighted GPA
      • Must have completed an accepted college placement test's reading, writing, and math sections (listed in the document above).
        • Must have placed at the minimum college-ready level in at least one of the sections.
      • Students are limited to part-time each semester (6 credits Max) and can enroll in courses/subjects not precluded by the deficiency in their college placement exam scores. 
      • Students are limited to earning 12 credits and must submit updated placement test scores showing the minimum college-ready score in ALL placement areas (Reading, Writing, AND Math). 

 


Early Admission Students (12th Grade) – Full-time (min. 12 credits) (Fall & Spring)

  • I have a cumulative unweighted GPA of at least 3.2.
  • I have college-ready test scores in ALL 3 areas.
  • I have an official recommendation letter from my principal/designee.
    • Home Education students can submit a recommendation from a parent.

 


Career and Technical Certificate Dual Enrollment (10th – 12th Grade)

  • I have a cumulative unweighted GPA of at least 2.0.
  • I have eligible TABE Scores  for my desired CCP program (for programs 450+ clock hours)
    • TABE is not required for programs less than 450 clock hours.
    • TABE Exemption: ACT/SAT/PERT scores at college level (within two years of program start date).
    • The student or guardian is responsible for all TABE testing fees.
  • Availability depends on the program and varies by semester.

 

NOTE:  Students may take the PERT or ACCUPLACER at no cost on their first attempt at PBSC. See Steps 1 and 2 below for info on registering.

 


 

Steps to Enroll

New students complete Steps 1-8.

Returning students complete Steps 4-8.

 

Step 1:  Apply to PBSC

  • Complete PBSC Admissions application
    • Admission Category: Dual Enrollment Student.  Do not select First Time in College.
    • Select Degree/Certificate desired at Palm Beach State College:
      • Non-Degree
        • For students interested in earning AA or AS
        • Note: Dual enrollment students are considered non-degree students since you have not graduated high school.
      • CCP – Career Certificate Program
        • For Career & Technical Education Dual Enrollment
    • Select a Program for Your Selected Degree/Certificate:
      • High School Dual Enrollment – Public School
      • High School Early Admission – Public School
      • High School Dual Enrollment – CCP – Public School
    • After submitting your application, you will receive three follow-up emails with your Student ID and instructions on setting up your PBSC student email.
      • Email #1 – Your application has been received! 
      • Email #2 – Welcome Letter – Welcome to Palm Beach State College
      • Email #3 - Palm Beach State College - Workday Student Account Setup. Make sure to note your PBSC Student ID Number and your PBSC Student Email.
    • Visit the Workday Student Training page for assistance with setting up your Student Workday Account: Workday Student Training for Students
    • Become familiar with the PBSC Student Portal, Student App and applications.

 

Step 2:  Placement Testing

Review current placement testing (see minimum scores in the Eligibility section above)

  • Schedule a PERT, ACCUPLACER, or TABE exam, if needed, with the PBSC Testing Center.
  • Save your testing score reports as a PDF (needed for step 5)
  • Report must show Name & Test Date in a single PDF file.
  • Public School Students: Test Scores from SIS accepted. 
    • Name, Test Date, and Student ID required in report. 

 

Step 3:  Enroll in Canvas Course

  • Login to Canvas and accept terms and conditions.
  • Self-Enroll by clicking here (PBSC account needs to be setup to access. See Step 1).
  • Complete required modules and quizzes.
    • Save a PDF of your orientation completion certificate (needed for step 5)

 

Step 4:  Choose Courses


Tip: List alternative classes on your authorization just in case classes are full.

 

Step 5: Submit the required authorization request via Workday.

Steps to create student requests via Workday.

  1. Login to Workday
  2. Click the Menu (top left) and choose Academics
  3. Under Requests, choose Create Request
  4. Request Type: Dual Enrollment Authorization Request Form
  5. Complete the questionnaire and upload required documents

 

Once submitted, the Dual Enrollment Processing Team will review your submission (about 2-week turnaround time).

Required Documents:

  • PDF of signed Dual Enrollment Authorization Form (list all requested courses)
    • Counselor/Designee MUST initial next to each class and sign.
    • Student and parent signature required
    • Missing initials/signatures will delay processing.
  • PDF of high school transcript or grade report (must show GPA)
    • Middle School Students: Highlight the total high school credits (including 1 English credit and 1 Math credit)
  • PDF college-ready test scores (within 2 years old)
  • PDF of applicable AP, AICE and/or IB scores
    • Only needs to be submitted if showing proof or pre-requisite completion.
  • Early Admission, Seniors only - letter of recommendation from High School Principal/Designee.

 

Step 6: Register for Class (Once Approved)

 

Step 7: Obtain Course Materials/Books


Public School Students: Must obtain a voucher from their school counselor to bring alongside their printed college schedule to the company called Booksmart: https://booksmartusa.com/

Charter School Students: Check with their school counselor as they may have a different process for you to follow.

If you are enrolled in a class that is designated as Follett Access, you will be automatically opted out and you will need to obtain the materials from Booksmart. Charter school students will receive their access code from the bookstore your school partners with. You will have free access to the course materials for approximately 2 weeks at the start of the term but will then need to obtain the appropriate access codes/materials to retain the access. 

 

Step 8: Plan for Success and utilize all academic and well-being support as needed

Before Day 1

  • Need equipment for class (laptop, calculator, etc.)? Check one out at the Library.

  • Free Parking Decal  |  How to obtain my Parking Decal
  • Need course accommodation for an IEP/504 plan? Visit our Center for Student Accessibility (CSA) and request an appointment today.
    • Students must self-identify and affirmatively request accommodations.
    • IEP or 504 Plan does not transfer over automatically with their High School.
    • All disability related documentation must be submitted directly to the Center for Student Accessibility (CSA). May take up to 3 weeks for processing and notification.
    • Faculty members are not obligated to accommodate students until they have registered with CSA and have received the student’s Letter of Notification.

 

First Day & Beyond

  • Attend class and participate on the first day of classes. Students who are dropped for non-attendance and/or non-participation may not be permitted to continue in the program.
  • Be consistent and talk to your professor when you need support.
  • Student Learning Center (Free tutoring)
  • Student Development (counseling, TRiO, etc.) and Student Activities

 

Private School Students

Eligibility

10th – 12th Grade Students - Part-time (max 8 credits) (Fall, Spring, or Summer) 

  • I have an unweighted GPA of at least 3.0.
    • SLS 1501 Exception (12th Grade ONLY)
    • Seniors with a GPA between 2.75-2.99 may enroll in SLS1501 ONLY in the Spring.
  • I have college-ready test scores in ALL 3 areas or plan to take a test soon.
    • 12 Credit Limit Exception (10th – 12th Grade ONLY)
      • Must have college-ready test scores in at least one subject area. 
      • Students deficient in placement areas can enroll in one class at a time and a maximum of 12 credits total at PBSC in subjects not precluded by the deficiency. Must submit new scores to continue.

 

Early Admission Students (12th Grade) – Full-time (min. 12 credits) (Fall & Spring)

  • I have an unweighted GPA of at least 3.2.
  • I have college-ready test scores in ALL 3 areas or plan to take a test soon.
  • I have an official recommendation letter from my principal/designee.

Important: Home Ed & PEP Students must reside in Palm Beach County. Home Education students must be registered with the Palm Beach County School District Home Education Office. PEP Students must submit their scholarship letter with their dual enrollment authorization form.

  • Home Education Students: A Home Education Legal Compliance Form signed by the Palm Beach County School District for the academic school year. A new form is required every school year.
